The mission of the PASSWORD Academy is to provide at-risk youth with an enrichment program that offers students the opportunity to develop and practice community integration and adaptive life skills in an academically stimulating and supportive environment during the winter, spring, and summer breaks. The PASSWORD Academy offers structured Individual and Group Skill Building activities centered on the character themes of Respect, Cooperation, Acceptance, Citizenship, Choices, Compassion, Courage, and Excellence. Students also are exposed to eight different interactive learning units that allow them to explore visual art, music, literature, nature, health education, cooking, industrial art, and cultural diversity.
Through participation in the PASSWORD Academy, students receive the benefit of positive behavior incentive strategies designed to teach them that the true measure of success and accomplishment is about attitude, effort, choices, and actions. In addition, these ongoing positive reinforcement and intervention strategies motivate students to repeat their most productive behaviors. Parent feedback regarding services is quite positive. In addition, teachers report that students are able to maintain the skills acquired before school holidays and experienced an easier transition back to the school routine following the various school breaks.
