How We Are Funded

To ensure the sustainability of our services, PASSWORD Community Mentoring, Inc. has always worked diligently to diversify our sources of revenue. We have formed funding partnerships with the Indiana Department of Education, several school districts, the Dawn Project of Choices, Inc., Families Reaching for Rainbows, and various community mental health centers. Additionally, PASSWORD has been awarded some small local grants. PASSWORD has never received direct federal grant funding.

For Fiscal Year 2007, our funding sources were:

  • 72% – School corporation contracts
  • 22% – Dawn Project contracts
  • 4% – Department of Education contracts
  • 1% – Family and Social Services Administration
  • less than 1% – Grants and charitable donations

In the past, PASSWORD partnerships with the community mental health centers gave us access to Medicaid funds, providing as much as 45% of our total revenue. In fact, to maximize this opportunity to serve children most in need, PASSWORD has been the only organization in the state to sustain simultaneous partnerships with two community mental health centers.

The funding options available to PASSWORD are shifting rapidly. In particular, changes in the way Medicaid funds are distributed in Indiana have caused that source of PASSWORD funding to disappear. We anticipate the need to change our focus to grant funding as a way to replace the loss of Medicaid revenue. We will continue to explore multiple revenue options so that we can sustain the organization and continue to serve at-risk children and their families.
